The Jericho Road Project (JRP) is a Christian Urban Mission project working with those at risk of or affected by the sex industry in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Established for 25 years, we have a small staff team and around 70 volunteers from churches across Nottinghamshire. We work with around 100 women engaged in or affected by the sex industry both on and off street.

This is a key post, offering an exciting opportunity, to further build our prison work and respond to current opportunities to expand our prison activities. The Prison Visiting and Resettlement Worker is responsible for the regular visits made to service users in prison, providing support and enabling them to consider a future outside the sex industry. Many of our service users receive a prison sentence and/or engage with the judicial system at some stage and this period can be a significant opportunity for change. This post offers an exciting opportunity to work with these women at this point in their lives and beyond.

Responsible to our Project Manager, the postholder will work closely with our other Prison Visiting and Resettlement Worker and the rest of our staff team. The role includes managing and co-ordinating a team of volunteers and working with prisons and agencies, including Christian projects and churches, to ensure that resettlement options are available to the JRP clients upon release from prison. The work will involve offering support in prayer, pastoral, practical and problem-solving capacities as well as helping with the creative art therapy course we run for women in prison to help  support their wellbeing.

You must have experience of working with marginalised and excluded people and experience of working with volunteers is desirable. You should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the issues faced by the women we work with; and have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You should have the ability to operate in a calm and supportive manner at all times, including in stressful contexts. You should be able to motivate others and enjoy working in a team.

You must also hold a current driving license, have a good range of IT skills and be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. Applicants will have to demonstrate an ability to support and promote the Christian ethos of JRP.

Relevant training and supervision will be provided to ensure that high quality support is developed and provided for every individual we work with. Regular working days to include Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
